The Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation

Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore

08:10, April 30, 2019

On April 29, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 200th anniversary of Stamford Raffles’ landing in Singapore. And next year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between both countries. Bilateral relations are facing new development opportunities. The two sides should continue to deepen political mutual trust and integration of interests, respect each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, and support each other on the road to common development. China and Singapore are natural partners in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. Singapore has actively supported and participated in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. The cooperation within this framework starts early, has a high starting point and a large pattern, providing new impetus for the development of bilateral relations in the new era and playing an exemplary role in the high-quality and high-level joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative for countries along the Belt and Road route. The two sides should focus on China-Singapore cooperation, promote common development of countries in the region and along the Belt and Road route, and advance the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and trilateral cooperation. The two sides should continue to firmly support economic globalization and multilateralism, promote the integration between the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative and Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and promote economic integration in East Asia.

Lee Hsien Loong expressed congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and thanked the Chinese government for awarding Mr. Lee Kuan Yew the China Reform Friendship Medal. Singapore is ready to continue to be a partner of China's reform and development and looks forward to seeing a more prosperous China. I would also like to congratulate on the complete success of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. China sees rapid development, and its international status is rising. Jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative is a manifestation of China's due international role. It is believed that this initiative will not only benefit China but also the world, and it will contribute to closer ties between China and the international community. Singapore has long supported and participated in cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and is ready to continue to deepen cooperation with China in connectivity, investment, finance and other fields within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and make joint efforts to promote regional economic integration and the development of ASEAN-China relations.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
