On April 28, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti at the Great Hall of the People.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Djibouti have always enjoyed sincerity and friendship, and treated each other equally since the two countries established diplomatic relations 40 years ago. The two countries are good friends, good partners and good brothers who trust each other and share win-win results. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Djiboutian side to take the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the implementation of the outcomes reached at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as an opportunity to promote bilateral strategic partnership. Both sides should continue to support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns and strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional affairs. The Chinese side will continue to provide support for Djibouti's economic and social development, exchange experience on development, and encourage competitive Chinese enterprises to invest and expand businesses in Djibouti.
Ismail Omar Guelleh congratulated the Chinese side on successfully hosting the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The BRI put forward by President Xi Jinping is unique and will promote international development cooperation, and make significant contributions to creating an interconnected and better world. Djibouti-China relations have witnessed fruitful outcomes. The Djiboutian side thanked China for the sincere and friendly help which has boosted development and employment of Djibouti and enabled Djibouti to face the future more confidently. The groundless accusations by some people will not weaken Djibouti's confidence in the BRI and its trust in China.
After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents including that of jointly building the BRI.
Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
