On April 28, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with President Milos Zeman of the Czech Republic at the Great Hall of the People.
Xi Jinping stressed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Czech Republic 70 years ago, friendly cooperation has always been the mainstream of bilateral relations no matter how the international situation may change. China remains committed to treating each other as equals, respecting each other, pursuing mutual benefit and common development, and promoting more frequent exchanges and further development between the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Czech side to elevate the bilateral strategic partnership to a new level by seizing the historic opportunity of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese side will be firmly committed to opening wider to the outside world and advocating win-win cooperation. China appreciates that President Milos Zeman speaks up for the country on China-related issues, including calling for fair and equitable treatment to Chinese telecom businesses. Both sides should maintain exchanges at all levels and in all fields, strengthen synergy between the two countries’ development strategies, and build a solid foundation for cooperation so as to advance further development of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. It is hoped that the Czech side will continue to play a constructive role in promoting China-Europe relations.
Milos Zeman said that I attach great importance to the relations with China and am pleased with the progress made in the bilateral practical cooperation. Milos Zeman congratulated China on the successful holding of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The Czech Republic is willing to actively participate in the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative and hopes to enhance cooperation with China in economy, trade and investment, and promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The Czech Republic supports deepening Europe-China relations.
After the meeting, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.
Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
