On April 28, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan at the Great Hall of the People.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the Chinese side firmly supports President Emomali Rahmon's internal and external policies for Tajikistan's national development and people's livelihood, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Tajik side to well safeguard the common strategic, security and development rights and interests of the two countries. The two sides should strengthen the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Tajikistan's national development strategies for the period up to 2030, and deepen cooperation in fields including trade, investment, finance, connectivity, people-to-people and cultural engagement and security. Efforts should be made to enhance the capability of customs clearance and transportation to create favorable conditions for expanding trade between the two countries. The Chinese side encourages its capable companies to invest and do business in Tajikistan to support the Tajik side's industrialization. The two sides should well hold the Tajikistan cultural festival. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with the Tajik side and well implement the outcomes of the Qingdao Summit. The Chinese side supports the Tajik side in well holding this year's Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) to constantly improve the level of all-round CICA cooperation.
Emomali Rahmon congratulated on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the complete success of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. He said that the forum with fruitful outcomes serves as strong evidence that the forum is a platform for practical cooperation rather than a talk shop. The BRI is of global significance and will help Tajikistan achieve industrialization. The Tajik side is an early supporter of the BRI, and is actively aligning its national development strategies for the period up to 2030 with the BRI. The Tajik side hopes to, together with the Chinese side, deepen cooperation in investment, high technology, innovation, agriculture, infrastructure and other fields, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthen security cooperation, and jointly crack down on the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism. He hoped that Tajikistan-China friendship will last forever.
Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
