Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand

On April 26, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Li Keqiang said that in recent years, China-Thailand relations have maintained high-level development, and the traditional friendship featuring “one family of China and Thailand” has been constantly consolidated. The Chinese side supports the Thai side in following a development path suited to its own national conditions, and is willing to work with the Thai side to strengthen political mutual trust, increase high-level contacts, deepen practical cooperation, and enhance alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Thailand's development strategy as well as promote the high-quality construction of China-Thailand railway. The Chinese side supports Thailand in well serving as the rotating chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and is happy to see Thailand play a more important role in regional cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to enhance coordination with the Thai side to well organize a series of East Asia cooperation meetings this year and lift China-ASEAN relations to a new level. We are ready to deepen cooperation with the Thai side under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism to promote peace, stability and common development in the region.

Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed that the Thai side highly appreciates the vision of Chinese leaders, which has enabled China to achieve great development in a short period of time. The Chinese side has always taken a constructive and positive attitude in developing relations with neighboring countries. The Belt and Road Initiative is conducive to promoting regional development, and all parties are ready to play a more active role within this framework. The Thai side is willing to align its development strategies with the Chinese side’s Belt and Road Initiative, learn from China's experience in economic development and poverty reduction, strengthen exchanges in state governance and administration, and work closely with the Chinese side under the frameworks of the ASEAN and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation so as to jointly promote regional development and prosperity.
