On April 27, 2019, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice Premier Han Zheng met with UN Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
Han Zheng noted that the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation has achieved important outcomes, and that the Chinese government will well implement the major measures announced by President Xi Jinping for reform and opening up at the opening ceremony as well as the broad consensus reached by all sides. He also expressed gratitude to António Guterres for his contributions to the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and added that China will firmly uphold multilateralism and the international system with the UN at its core, and is willing to constantly deepen cooperation with the UN across the board and support the UN in holding the climate change summit.
António Guterres extended congratulations on the success of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. He pointed out that the idea of green and sustainable development proposed by President Xi Jinping has injected new momentum into the Belt and Road Initiative, and that the UN endorses and supports the Belt and Road Initiative. The UN looks forward to working with the Chinese side to support developing countries in addressing climate change and achieving the sustainable development goals.
