On April 25, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian of France, who was here for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Wang Yi said that President Emmanuel Macron appointed Mr. Foreign Minister as his special representative to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which shows the French side’s attention to and support for the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Chinese side appreciates that. During President Xi Jinping’s state visit to France a month ago, the two heads of state had long and in-depth strategic communication and reached important consensus on the next-stage development of China-France relations and the strategic cooperation on the international stage. We should cherish the hard-won situation, implement the fruitful results of the visit and avoid unnecessary interference so as to ensure the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations.
Jean-Yves Le Drian expressed that the Belt and Road Initiative is of great significance and has made important contributions to rebuilding the multilateral system. I was very pleased to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation as the special representative of the French President. President Xi Jinping’s recent state visit to France was a great success. The French side is willing to work with the Chinese side to maintain the development momentum of bilateral relations and implement one by one the outcomes of the visit.
The two sides agreed to enhance communication and coordination on regional and international issues of common concern and jointly defend multilateralism.
