Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam

On April 25, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping asked Nguyen Xuan Phuc to convey his sincere greetings to General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, and pointed out that China and Vietnam are a community of shared future with strategic significance. The two sides should take the 16-word guideline of "long-term stability, future orientation, good-neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation" and the spirit of "good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners" as guidance to make joint efforts in writing a new chapter of comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries. Both sides should leverage the role of the exchange mechanism between the two ruling parties to deepen mutual learning on party discipline and state governance. The two sides should also focus on the major task of aligning the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with Vietnam's "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle", and vigorously advance cooperation in key areas including infrastructure construction, production capacity and cross-border economic cooperation zones. The two sides should improve the level of connectivity between the two countries, drive the coordinated development in the Lancang-Mekong sub-region, and broaden non-governmental exchange channels to pass on friendship between the two countries to future generations. Both sides should enhance coordination and cooperation in international affairs, safeguard the common interests of the two countries and the vast number of developing countries, and safeguard maritime peace and stability with practical actions.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc conveyed General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong’s warm greetings to Xi Jinping, and congratulated on the great achievements the People’s Republic of China has made over the past 70 years since its founding, especially over the past 40 years of its reform and opening up. Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed that Vietnam and China are brothers and closer neighbors with the same socialist cause and common development goals. The Vietnamese side is committed to promoting bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for sustained, sound and stable development, and supports China in making greater contributions to peace and prosperity in the region and the world at large. The Vietnamese side has supported the BRI since the very beginning, and stands ready to build greater synergy between the BRI and Vietnam's "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle", and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in extensive areas to promote regional development. The Vietnamese side is willing to follow the consensus between the two sides, and work with the Chinese side to properly manage the maritime issues, so as not to affect the overall development of the bilateral relations.
