On April 24, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
Li Keqiang expressed that China-Ethiopia relations have continued to develop in a healthy and stable manner, and cooperation between the two countries has played an important role in China-Africa cooperation. The two sides always respect each other's core interests and the development path based on their own national conditions. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Ethiopian side to intensify high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, and actively advance cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and implementation of the results of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The Chinese side is ready to, together with the Ethiopian side, enhance the integration of development strategies and policy exchanges for more sustainable bilateral cooperation, deepen cooperation in areas including infrastructure, and support the Ethiopian side's economic development, improvement in people's livelihood and the development of regions along the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway and a river bank project in Addis Ababa. The Chinese side encourages its enterprises to invest and establish business in Ethiopia, in a bid to realize mutual benefit and win-win results.
Abiy Ahmed Ali said that the Ethiopian side sees China as an important cooperative partner. The Chinese side has made significant contributions to economic and social development and people’s well-being of Ethiopia. All African countries value their partnership with China. The Ethiopian side stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields to make it a model for South-South cooperation and Africa-China cooperation.
After the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents.
