Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand

On April 24, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand, who was accompanying Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha of Thailand for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Wang Yi welcomed Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha for his attendance at the forum after rescheduling his program, which shows the special friendly relationship between China and Thailand. China stands ready to work with the Thai side to continue to promote the development of key projects such as China-Thailand Railway and the “Eastern Economic Corridor” and push forward new progress in the cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. The attendance of leaders of ten Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members at the forum is a highlight in the joint construction of Belt and Road Initiative and also a great event in the China-ASEAN relations. The Chinese side supports the Thai side in playing its role as the rotating presidency of the ASEAN and is willing to join hands with ASEAN members to boost regional economic integration and strive for the completion of the negotiations on the “Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership” (RCEP) within this year. China and Thailand are expected to proactively participate in the construction of Lancang-Mekong cooperation economic development belt and the “New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor”, enhance sub-regional cooperation and jointly uphold peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Don Pramudwinai wished the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation a great success. He noted that the Thai side is willing to strengthen the integration of “Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy” with the Chinese side’s Belt and Road Initiative and enhance cooperation in digital economy, smart city and other fields. As the rotating presidency of the ASEAN, the Thai side is committed to pushing forward greater development of ASEAN-China relations.
